On Thursday, September 3rd we took the ferry from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia. It was sad to leave Newfoundland but we were looking forward to more time in Nova Scotia. After we boarded the ferry, our name was called over the ferry intercom. It turned out a pet friendly cabin was available, so we took it. It was really nice to have space to ourselves where we could spread out, lay down, and have our own bathroom. Our voyage back to Nova Scotia was uneventful, but well planned. The day after we returned the weather shifted and some ferries were canceled. There was a lot of rain and wind. We stayed safe and dry in the van, but the amount of rain that came down caused a lot of flooding. This coincided with our drive around Cape Breton. We hiked the Skyline Trail but didn't see much as it was so drizzly and foggy. It was still a nice walk though.
We had originally planned on taking the ferry from Nova Scotia to Prince Edward Island. However, we discovered the morning of Friday, September 11th, that the ferries were canceled due to weather. We ended up driving to Charlottetown, which ended up working well as we stopped in Moncton to pick up van parts from the Mercedes dealership there. We stayed at a Harvest Host farm and enjoyed watching the Highland cows.
Josh replaced our brakes outside a Napa Auto Parts store and realized our rotor was also getting worn down. We stayed in Cavendish for a couple of nights and saw L.M. Montgomery’s statue and Green Gables Heritage Place. We took Lucky to Atlantic Veterinary College on Saturday, September 19th since she was in pain and we didn't know what was wrong with her. We think she pulled a muscle or has a pinched nerve. They gave us some pain medication to give her.
As we made our way through New Brunswick we really enjoyed seeing Hopewell Rocks. The Bay of Fundy has incredibly drastic tidal changes, so it was neat to see the rocks at high tide and then at low tide. Before leaving New Brunswick we took two ferries to Campobello Island. We were able to go to Roosevelt Campobello International Park and take a tour of the Roosevelt's summer cottage. We crossed into Maine and spent the rest of the month in Boothbay, ME. We discovered a great town, Camden, that has a fantastic library and lots of cute restaurants and shops.
