The first week of April we continued our stay at Mission Bay RV Resort in San Diego. We then bumped over to Malibu RV Park. The reason we stayed in California and the Los Angeles area for so long is because Hailey had follow-up doctor's appointments and we also had appointments for van maintenance. We stayed at an AirBnb in El Cajon for several nights while the van had CV boots replaced. Once the van maintenance was completed we headed back to Mexico.
We had arranged for Josh's mom and Hailey's parents to fly into San Diego and get picked up by a driver to bring them to Valle de Guadalupe where we had booked an AirBnb. We used Baja Society Toursto hire a driver and it worked great. It was easy for our family to meet the driver at the airport and then drive across the border. Our parents said their passports weren't even checked as they came into Mexico. We had the driver (with the exception of one day) for the duration of our trip. The only day we didn't have the driver we walked to the wineries that were near the AirBnb.
The few days we had together were busy with wine tastings and exploring Valle de Guadalupe. We had a lot of fun at Rancho La Campana (La Cava de Marcelo) where we had a cheese tasting, sampled gelato, and enjoyed pasta out of a wheel of cheese. Hailey's dad really wanted a suckling pig and was able to get it at Rancho La Campana. After this meal we were stuffed and opted to not eat out that night. Several restaurants we recommend are Finca Altozano, La Cocina de Doña Esthela, and Fauna. Some of our favorite wineries are Lomita, El Cielo, Bodegas Magoni, and Trevista Vineyards. At El Cielo we had a wine and chocolate pairing while at Trevista Vineyards we had a vertical tasting of tempranillo wines.
After our parents left we boondocked in the arroyo near La Cetto. We found this area to be peaceful and scenic. We saw wild horses, jackrabbits, and coyotes. We didn't need hook-ups and appreciated the privacy in wild camping. We celebrated Josh's birthday at Fauna which had fantastic food, service, and a beautiful setting.
