Baja is our happy place (which is what nuestra lugar feliz means in Spanish). From friendly locals, getting to know other travelers, whale watching, seeing donkeys, the local food, easy campsites, and good weather, there isn't anything for us to dislike about Baja.
February was busy with meeting up with family. The first week of February we were visited by Josh's aunt and uncle who rented a truck camper from Van Baja. They followed us around for a week as we explored East Cape and Todos Santos. We were then met by Hailey's parents and aunt and uncle. For a little over a week we stayed at Grand Fiesta Americana in Los Cabos. It was a hard shift to go from van life to hotel life! We enjoyed spending time with family and loved not having to worry about water or power usage but it made us realize we prefer our van routine and space. Resort life was difficult as the property wasn't dog friendly so we had to put Lucky in a kennel. The kennel (Cabo Kennels) was clean and organized, but there was a language barrier. The business was prompt with replying to Hailey's messages via WhatsApp, but if Hailey didn't reach out, there wasn't preemptive communication from the kennel. This was an adjustment for us since we're used to Rover sitters who provide daily updates and photos when they're looking after Lucky. After Hailey's aunt and uncle left, her parents stayed a few extra days in Todos Santos. During that time we camped at Base Camp, which is one of our favorite campgrounds in Baja Sur.
While family was in town we ended up going to the San Jose del Cabo art walk twice. One of of our favorite things to do at the art walk is buy churros. They are freshly made and the flavor and texture can't be beat. We also drove out to Los Barriles and La Fortuna so Hailey's parents could see those areas.
It was nice having family in town and showing them places we love. Now we're excited to be back on the road just the three of us! We'll be slowly making our way back up north and plan on taking our time and lingering in places.
